374 Ertico – ITS Europe is calling for session proposals and papers for the 14th ITS European Congress, which takes place in Lisbon, Portugal on 18-20 May 2020. Themed ‘ITS: The Game Changer’, the Congress will look in particular at data, focusing on areas such as connected and automated mobility, and new mobility services, as well as transport network design and operations.
A welcome message from European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, explains: “The Congress will also specifically look at other topical issues such as digitalisation and data value chain, freight and logistics, illustrating how ITS can be the link between the various modes of transport and the game changer for the different stakeholders.”
Lisbon has been named European Green Capital for 2020, with Bulc praising its environmental management, good urban and mobility planning, and the fact that “citizens [are] at the heart of this transformation”.

Iteris will use the ITS World Congress to focus on the Pico, a compact video detection system. It is specifically designed for adaptive traffic signal systems installed at small-to-medium intersections with up to sixteen detection zones. As video cameras are mounted above-ground, installation is far less labour-intensive and requires minimal traffic encroachment, thereby reducing lane closu

The village of Babylon in Long Island, near New York City, has introduced PassportParking's mobile app with the intention of providing commuters with an easier way to pay for parking across nearly 1,000 off-street locations. PassportParking says the app also allows users to monitor their parking sessions, extend sessions remotely, view payment history and receive email receipts. Babylon will offer a wallet option within the app, allowing users to upload funds into their PassportParking account. The initial
Swedish public transport company Västtrafik has devised a different advertising campaign to encourage more car drivers to take the bus. The campaign film mimics the way the car industry advertises its new car launches, using buzzwords such as electric, sustainable, delegated driving, with dramatic music, lighting and quick cuts between images. In the end, however, a bus is revealed as the ‘mobility of the future’ with the offer of a free two-week test drive.
