As part of the 23rd 6456 ITS World Congress to be held in Melbourne, Australia in 2016, event host Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Australia initiated a scholarship program for students in the Asia Pacific region and an ITS Future Innovators Club to foster young ITS professionals.

The ten scholarship winners represent nations in the Asia Pacific region and were announced at the recent Asia Pacific Forum in Nanjing.  ITS Australia congratulates these winners and acknowledges the contribution of each ITS association who contributed to this process and assisted in the selection of local winners.

The scholarship winning students were chosen by ITS professionals in their local region based on a range of criteria, of which being a student in the transport and innovation sector was one. The scholarships are valued at AU$5,000 for each student to assist them with travel and other expenses associated with attending the 23rd ITS World Congress in Melbourne from 10 to 14 October, 2016.

ITS Australia CEO Susan Harris said with the 23rd ITS World Congress as a platform this scholarship program will give future ITS innovators access to world leaders and resources to shape the future of transport technology internationally.

“ITS Australia established this scholarship program to recognise student excellence in the Asia Pacific region and to support and encourage student participation, not just attendance, at the World Congresses,” she said. “This program will enable 10 leading Asia Pacific region students to continue their learning, create new networks, link with key industry bodies, and showcase their skills when they join us in Melbourne at the 23rd ITS World Congress.

“The scholarship winning students will collaborate as inaugural members of the ITS Future Innovators Club to deliver a presentation about their vision for future ITS innovation and the benefits these will offer communities everywhere," said Susan Harris.
