ITS America congratulates 2013 US ITS World Congress Hall of Fame inductees

The ITS World Congress has honoured individuals from the Americas, Europe and Asia representing the high-tech transportation community across the categories of industry, local government and personal lifetime achievement. For the first time, it also recognises achievements by industry/academic institutions and local governments.

The 6456 ITS World Congress has honoured individuals from the Americas, Europe and Asia representing the high-tech transportation community across the categories of industry, local government and personal lifetime achievement.  For the first time, it also recognises achievements by industry/academic institutions and local governments.

Presented at the 20th ITS World Congress in Tokyo, Japan, the 2013 ITS World Congress Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Harry Voccola, formerly senior vice president of 295 Navteq, who was among the first members in 560 ITS America’s World Congress planning committee in 1993 and later chaired the 12th World Congress on ITS in San Francisco, California.

6692 Econolite Group received the first-ever World Congress Hall of Fame Lifetime Industry Award in honour of the company’s innovative work on its Centracs advanced transportation management system (ATMS). To date 120 systems have been deployed that are scheduled to control more than 20,000 intersections throughout the US and help alleviate heavy demands on transportation management, security, and control.
 
Finally, the 5837 Oregon Department of Transportation, Office of Innovative Partnerships and Alternative Funding (OIPP), received the Americas Local Government award for its road usage charge pilot program (RUCPP), which focuses on helping the state stop the recent and long-term reduction in available transportation funding as a result of the continuing decrease in gas tax revenues.

“All three 2013 US ITS World Congress Hall of Fame inductees exemplify significant, substantial and long-standing support to advancing intelligent transportation systems,” said Belcher. “The 2013 winners have demonstrated that they are not only on the cutting edge of transportation innovation, but that they are leading the industry forward. Congratulations to Mr Voccola, Econolite and the Oregon Department of Transportation.”
