British technology company Dyson has pulled out of a project to build electric vehicles (EVs), saying it is unable to make its car “commercially viable”.
Chief executive Sir James Dyson said in a statement: “We have been through a serious process to find a buyer for the project which has, unfortunately, been unsuccessful so far.”

ITS experts are invited to submit papers to be considered for presentation and publication at the ITS World Congress 2019 in Singapore. The International Programme Committee says submissions must be centred around themes and sub-topics such as crowdsourcing and big data analytics, cybersecurity and data privacy, innovative pricing and travel demand management and intelligent, connected and autonomous vehicles. Chinese bus manufacturer Yin Long intends to produce electric buses at Ikarbus’ factory in Serbia by the end of the year, according to a report by SeeNews.
Yin Long acquired Ikarbus through its subsidiary Lanzhou Guangdong New Energy Automobile, and intends to hire 200 employees at the factory and use it as a hub to expand its business.
The factory is in the city of Belgrade. Ikarbus produces low-floor and articulated city buses as well as intercity buses.
Econolite celebrated a major milestone here at the ITS America Annual Meeting – the company’s 80th birthday. It was in 1933 that Econolite began distribution of traffic signal controllers at a time when a gallon of gas cost just 10 cents and the interstate highway system hadn’t even been conceived.
