Orange County Transportation Authority (Octa) has awarded Iteris a contract to analyse public transit movements and identify improvements.

Using the ClearGuide Software as a Service solution, it will focus on routes along Harbor Boulevard, with a study area across five cities and 53 signalised intersections.

The two combined routes (Route 43 and OC Bus Rapid Route 543) along this corridor average over 10,000 boardings daily - which is nearly 8% of all county bus ridership.

Iteris will simulate real-life operations and examine how changing travel demand will affect operations, including how patterns are altered by construction and workzones.

The project will look at local traffic patterns, updates to signal timings, and the interactions between different modes of travel, identifying strategies to improve public transit services.

It coincides with Iteris’ support for a separate traffic signal priority pilot study on Harbor Boulevard, which is one of the recent contracts awarded to the firm.

Steven Bradley, senior vice president of mobility professional solutions at Iteris, says: “With our extensive microsimulation experience and coinciding knowledge of Octa's transportation network from our other work with them, we’re uniquely positioned to help the county improve transit efficiency with this initiative.”

Iteris was bought by Almaviva Group last year.
