Intertraffic Istanbul proves successful

The organisers of the sixth 70 Intertraffic Istanbul event, which took place from 25-27 May 2011 in Istanbul Expo Center Yesilkoy, say that this proved a successful business platform for the markets of Eurasia and the Middle East. The trade show for professionals in infrastructure, ITS/traffic management, safety and parking The event doubled in size and visitor numbers climbed by over 30% compared with the previous event, which attracted visitors and exhibitors from around the globe. “Intertraffic Istanbul was larger and more international than ever with some 180 exhibitors originating from 26 different countries. Close to 4,800 visitors from 83 countries attended the event, 33% of which came from outside Turkey,” said RAI product manager Mariska Dreschler. “The impressive figures and geographical spread of exhibitors and visitors underline the importance of this event. We welcomed amongst other official delegations from Kyrgyzstan and Iran and various trade missions. Intertraffic Istanbul was the centre of attention for the traffic Industry from Eurasia and the Middle East and is the most authoritative event of its kind for the entire region.” The official opening of the exhibition was performed by sector leaders and was honoured by the presence of the President of Strategy Development of the Ministry of Transport of Turkey Kenan Bozgeyik, The General Director of the Directorate General of Highways Mehmet Cahit Turhan and Director of Research and Application Center of University of Bahçeþehir and Counselor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul Dr Mustafa Ilýcalý. Various projects on Traffic Safety are currently carried out by Turkish municipalities in order to reduce traffic accidents, support new projects regarding traffic safety, and to raise awareness for safety in general. To put the spotlights on the importance of such projects Intertraffic Istanbul launched at the Official Opening its first National (Metropolitan) Municipalities Application Project Competition. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was rewarded with the grand prize in Intertraffic National Metropolitan Municipalities Application Project category and the Honourable Award was extended to Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. The Municipalities of Manisa and Edirne shared the grand prize for the category of Intertraffic National Municipalities Application Project and the Municipality of Bodrum was granted the Incentive Award.
