Intertraffic 2016 Innovation Award nominees announced

Innovation and excellence will be rewarded at Intertraffic 2016, 5-8 April in Amsterdam, when the winners of the 2016 Intertraffic Innovation Awards will be announced. An international jury has scrutinised 91 potential candidates and after careful analysis and intense consideration has shortlisted 15 final entries.  Innovation and excellence will be rewarded at 70 Intertraffic 2016, 5-8 April in Amsterdam, when the winners of the 2016 Intertraffic Innovation Awards will be announced. An international jury has scrutinised 91 potential candidates and after careful analysis and intense consideration has shortlisted 15 final entries.

Awards will be presented in five categories – Infrastructure, Traffic Management, Safety, Parking, and Smart Mobility. One of these five winners will then be chosen as the overall winner of the 2016 Intertraffic Innovation Award. The Awards will be presented on 5 April during the opening ceremony.
 
The 2016 jury comprises: Chairman Dr Peter van der Knaap, managing director of the Institute for Road Safety Research, The Netherlands; Colin Sowman, editor, ITS International magazine, United Kingdom; Peter H. Martens , member of the Advisory Council of Directors, European Parking Association (EPA) and Vexpan, The Netherlands; Tom Stone, editor, Traffic Technology International, United Kingdom; and Dr Ir B.J.C.M. (Ben) Rutten, program manager, Strategic Area Smart Mobility Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands.

Companies shortlisted in the Infrastructure category are:

Silca Traffic Systems Europe, the Netherlands for its Quick-Cube mobile highway LED light which can be used for roadworks, events and security;

Aisico, Italy, for ADD_C which enables automatic assessment of infrastructure surface degradation using high-speed vehicles or UAVs (drones);

HR Groep, the Netherlands, Smart Ultimate Lighting, an illuminating foil with imprinted energy storage and sensors for use on used on information carriers such as illuminated signs
 
In the Traffic Management category:

Houston Radar, USA is shortlisted for SpeedLane, a state-of-the-art true dual beam, ultra low power, side fire radar, designed to accurately detect lane, speed and class of individual vehicles and compute per lane volume, occupancy, gap, average speed, 85th percentile and headway parameters; 

APM PRO, Poland, for OnDynamic, an intelligent framework of maintenance-free Bluetooth sensors and specialised software which can provide a live automatic system calibration and is easy to install at the roadsides to supply real-time data on travel time, average section speed and traffic problems, as well as pollution, atmospheric status, and road surface conditions;

Ortana, Turkey, shortlisted for Ortana Meteos 251, an overhead non-intrusive multi-sensor-systems with specially designed optical lenses with integrated optical, near-infrared and laser technology to identify all road conditions, including surface temperature, water film height, ice layer thickness, road status, ice percentage, freezing temperature, snow height and friction
 
Companies in the Safety category are:

EBO van Weel, the Netherlands, for Vehicle mounted VMS which is intended to improve safety for motorists, road workers and road supervisors;
WheelRight, United Kingdom, for WheelRight Tyre Condition Management which measures tyre pressure, vehicle weight and the tread depth around the circumference of the tyres as the vehicle drives over road mounted sensors;
Safer Place, Israel, for SaferTraffic Platform, a video-based technology platform to efficiently detect and enforce all high-risk traffic and parking violations
 
The Parking category includes:

Park Assist, USA, for its M4 Smart-Sensor camera-based system which puts processing intelligence right at the parking-space level with the ability to stream surveillance video to a video management system, while also sending rich data for our integrated License Plate Recognition (LPR) and occupancy tracking. HR Groep, the Netherlands, for MB multilayer parking system for cycles;

Parkmobile Group, the Netherlands, for the RingGo cashless parking solution which enables motorists to check parking space availability in central London, directly navigate towards and pay for the available space.

In the Smart Mobility category, shortlisted companies are:

Parkmobile Group, the Netherlands, for ParkNow, which, in cooperation with BMW and the Parkmobile Group, offers a Premium Parking Experience using the car’s dashboard;

CROSS Zlín, Czech Republic, whose InVipo is a smart integration and visualisation platform that focuses on data aggregation, monitoring, visualisation and integration in smart cities and ITS projects;

Siemens, Germany, for its Sitraffic SiBike, which provides cycle prioritisation at traffic signals via smartphone App;

Intertraffic is donating the registration fee for the Innovation Award to AMREF Flying Doctors.
