Heliox has delivered a fast-charging network for electric buses operating in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in a bid to reduce emissions.

The deployment supports the country’s stated ambition to gradually phasing out diesel-powered buses.

Heliox’s OC 450 kW chargers are expected to provide Ekova Electric’s e-buses with ‘opportunity charging’, which allows batteries to be charged several times during the work cycle (usually eight hours).

The company says the system utilises a pantograph to begin charging within a couple of minutes.

Better charging infrastructure could help improve air quality in the Czech Republic. In March, a %$Linker: 2 Internal <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary /> 4 34483 0 link-external survey false /categories/travel-information-weather/news/eastern-europe-has-the-most-noxious-drivers-in-the-continent/ false false%> of 25 European countries revealed that it has the highest levels of toxic emissions caused by drivers.

Czech drivers ranked highest for using poor quality cars that are over 14 years old. Results also showed that the number of cars powered by sustainable fuel alternatives is at 0.7%, which is nearly 22 times less than in Poland.

SCiB charges even faster than current fast charge batteries, which take 30 minutes. The ultra-fast charging is possible because SCiB can tolerate a high current of 400 amps, almost three times higher than today’s normal fast charging batt

Uber suspends Barcelona service after new regulations introduced
Taxi-hailing giant Uber is suspending its service in the Spanish city of Barcelona. The move comes after new regulations were passed by local authorities, according to Reuters. The company started its UberX service in the city last year. But from now on, passengers using ride-hailing services will have to wait at least 15 minutes after booking a ride before they can be picked up – thus negating one of the key selling points of companies such as Uber. Speed and convenience – as well as cost – are w
