US-based Xerox has been awarded a contract worth US$122 million to provide Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) with a contactless fare collection system. The system, which is to be installed on regional trains as well as buses, trolleys and subways, uses credit or debit cards to collect fares. American company EMX Industries, a specialist in detectors based on inductive, magnetic, ultrasound, microwave and infrared technologies, is participating at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014 to introduce Ultraloop, an exclusive inductive a loop detector that is capable of differentiating between moving vehicles and vehicles that come to a complete stop on the inductive loop. The company points out that this function is useful in preventing false detection by cross traffic.

GMB, the union for professional drivers, has responded to the news that a state court in Frankfurt, Germany, has issued an injunction preventing cab service Uber from offering its services without a specific permit under German transport laws. Steve Garelick, GMB branch secretary professional drivers branch, said "Up until now Uber seems to have adopted the route of forcing its way in to markets on a like it or lump it basis.”
