Each car is equipped with Getaround Connect, a proprietary technology that allows renters to locate and unlock the car using the company’s app, removing the need to meet the owner in-person for a manual key exchange. Getaround’s safety features include insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance.
Atlanta is the latest US city to join Getaround’s car-sharing service. Getaround is not the only company making inroads in Atlanta. All new Ford cars will be equipped with cellular vehicle to everything (C-V2X) technology in the US from 2022.
In a blog post, Don Butler, executive director, Ford connected vehicle platform and product, said that the move would “help make city mobility safer and less congested”.
