Each car is equipped with Getaround Connect, a proprietary technology that allows renters to locate and unlock the car using the company’s app, removing the need to meet the owner in-person for a manual key exchange. Getaround’s safety features include insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance.
Atlanta is the latest US city to join Getaround’s car-sharing service. Getaround is not the only company making inroads in Atlanta. The city of Stockholm is inviting submissions of solutions for its “Intelligent Transport Solutions” challenge by 28th February. Kista Science City is seeking solutions that are innovative, customer-oriented traveller services to support shifts in mobility patterns, away from cars toward public transport, biking and walking. The winner will be invited to pilot the solution in the city, with full support by all local stakeholders to evaluate the solution before a full-scale roll-out.
Tritium will use $400,000 in US funding to develop a cheaper version of its Veefil-PK ultra-fast charger for electric vehicles (EVs).
The fund is part of the Electric Power Research Institute's (EPRI) $3.2m package, issued by the US Department of Energy (DoE), to develop a fast charging system which will connect to the grid.
Once complete, the plug-in system is expected to reduce the impact on the grid and charge multiple EVs quickly.
