Each car is equipped with Getaround Connect, a proprietary technology that allows renters to locate and unlock the car using the company’s app, removing the need to meet the owner in-person for a manual key exchange. Getaround’s safety features include insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance.
Atlanta is the latest US city to join Getaround’s car-sharing service. Getaround is not the only company making inroads in Atlanta. Aptiv has opened a technical centre in Las Vegas, US, to gather insights on its fleet of autonomous vehicles (AVs) and to improve safety operator training.
Aptiv says its AVs are supporting more than 1,600 destinations across Clark County and the city, including entertainment venues such as the Las Vegas Convention Center and City Hall.
In May, Aptiv launched 30 AVs in the city to pick up riders using Lyft’s app and network.

Car-share platform Car2go will launch in Paris in January 2019. The Daimler-owned company will start with 400 electric Smart EQ fortwo cars and says it expects to operate several hundred more in the French capital over the course of next year. “Paris offers ideal conditions for our free-floating car-sharing principle. Chinese technology start-up Onemile has launched its electric scooter rental service which comes with a seating pad to help improve rider safety.
The company’s Halo City scooters are available in Hawaii, Paris, London and Berlin.
