UK independent vehicle test, validation and engineering services provider Millbrook Group has been awarded an extension certificate for seat belt anchorage and pedestrian impact tests by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS). This is in addition to the recent commissioning of the roll over and small offset testing facility for full scale crashes.

Millbrook’s crash test and safety capabilities include: corkscrew roll over and small-offset testing (opened in Q3 2016); full scale vehicle crash testing to a wide range of global and corporate standards, a ServoSled laboratory, wide range of test dummies with on-site calibration and certification, airbag deployment (including abuse and misuse), pendulum impact testing.

Millbrook’s existing sled testing capabilities were enhanced with the installation of an upgraded ServoSled last year. This led to improved accuracy and repeatability of tests, including accurate test pulses matching a crash test or CAE pulse. It is the first facility of its kind in the UK, and is supported by recent investment in the latest high speed, high definition camera equipment.

    January 7, 2013
Accidental or malicious issue of false messages to connected vehicles could result in dire consequences, so secure systems of authentication and certification are likely to be necessary, write Paul Avery and Sandra Dykes. Connectivity among vehicles in urban traffic systems will provide opportunity for beneficial impacts such as congestion reduction and greater safety. However, it also creates security risks with the potential for targeted disruption. Security algorithms, protocols and procedures must take

Development of the European eCall system is now at a stage of national systems testing. Ertico’s project manager for the HeERO pilot scheme Andy Rooke has given ITS International the lowdown on progress towards pan-European eCall services. Live testing is now under way in the nine countries participating in the European Commission’s HeERO project – a three year pilot scheme preparing the way for full deployment of Europe’s eCall automatic emergency call system.

Bob Lees, co-founder of Diamond Consulting Services, on why the loop detector just refuses to go away. The more strident proponents of newer and emergent detection technologies are quick to highlight what they see as the disadvantages, and hence the imminent passing, of the humble inductive loop. The more prosaic will acknowledge that loops continue to have a part to play in traffic management, falling back on the assertion that it is all a question of application. And yet year after year the loop, despite
  • Wireless bridges widen options for ITS upgrades
    December 9, 2014
Antaira Technologies’ marketing engineer Brian Roth explains why the increasing capacity of wireless bridges is reducing the cost of expanding and upgrading ITS networks. With more than half of the world’s population now living in cities, the need for efficient transportation of both people and goods has never been greater and that pressure is unlikely to ease any time soon. Indeed in many regions of the world the rate of urbanisation is still increasing as the demand for rural workers continues to decline.
