The Government of Japan is to install 5G wireless communications base stations on traffic signals nationwide by 2025.
A report by The Japan News says the project is expected to reduce costs for telecommunications service providers.
As part of the project, traffic signals will be equipped with devices to measure the amount of traffic. The information sent from the stations to the vehicles is expected to support autonomous driving.
Japan is not the only company looking to harness the potential of 5G. In F
The Canadian government has committed CAN$300,000 to develop six electric vehicle (EV) chargers across Prince Edward Island (PEI) province.
The funding is part of the government’s CAN$182.5 million investment to develop a fast-charging network for EVs and establish natural gas stations along roads and hydrogen stations in metropolitan areas. It recently made a similar investment in Vancouver.
The chargers, built by the Government of PEI, were funded through Natural Resource Canada’s Electric Vehicle and A
Governor of Colorado Jared Polis has signed an executive order which outlines a suite of initiatives to support a transition to zero emission vehicles (ZEV) in the US state.
Polis says: “Our goal is to reach 100% renewable electricity by 2040 and embrace the green energy transition already underway economy-wide”
He believes the public health and environmental benefits of widespread transportation electrification will increase as the state moves towards a cleaner electric grid.
The initiatives include
Electricity and gas company SP Group says it will build a network of 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers in Singapore by 2020 to meet public demand.
Wong Kim Yin, SP group chief executive officer, says the initiative will enable greater adoption of EVs, help its customers go green and save energy and cost.
The deployment will include 250 high-powered direct current (DC) chargers which are expected to offer power ratings up to 350kW to support EV models with bigger battery capacities and longer driv
