Evolis is using CARTES SECURE CONNEXIONS 2014 to launch Core, the companyís first printer to offer laser engraving using new technology. Developed in partnership with Italian firm Ixla, Core is a solution for encoding, printing, laser engraving and secured lamination in a single pass.

For governmental applications such as ID cards and driving licences, or applications in corporate environments like access control badges, some card profiles require tamper-proof security. Core is designed to fulfil this, leveraging the assets of existing Evolis printers Primacy (for graphic and electrical personalisation) and Securion (for lamination). Core will be a leader in terms of ìquality, price and functionalityî says Evolis product manager Philippe Lesellier. It is ìthe only system in todayís market to combine data encoding, double-sided dye sublimation printing in colour, laser engraving and laminationî, the firm insists. The solutionís encoding module can support a variety of technologies: magnetic, contact smart cards and contactless cards. Also, Evolis adds, Core offers a locking system that prevents access to the laser module and to the lamination films, to comply with all security requirements for producing cards and badges.
