The Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, has awarded two contracts to increase capacity on the automated Lausanne metro. The project also includes the construction of a third line.

The network is struggling to support growing passenger numbers and the city of Lausanne has launched the Strong Public Transport Axes project to increase capacity on the existing 6km line m2 and construct the new 4km m3 line, including seven stations.

The SyMeo consortium, comprising 7319 Egis and BG Ingénieurs Conseils, will be responsible for signalling and rolling stock for both lines, while BGE m3-m3 group, comprising BG Ingénieurs Conseils, Egis and GESTE Engineering, will undertake the engineering work.

Increasing the capacity of the m2 line involves reconfiguration of the line to create a passing loop and station remodelling to reduce congestion. It is due to open in 2023. The new m3 line, which is scheduled for commissioning in 2025, will use the same system as the m2 line to create an interoperable metro.
