In the demonstration areas of the ITS World Congress, 6711 Telespazio, a joint venture between 6747 Finmeccanica and 596 Thales, will showcase LCS, a ‘plug-in’ solution that enables easy retrofitting of existing GPS systems to use and exploit the capabilities of the EGNOS Commercial Service. The demonstration will show its use in an ITS system for tracking and tracing operational tankers transporting hydrocarbon in Europe.

The demonstration will show the added value of EGNOS by means of LCS compared to GPS alone, and the relevant operational benefits in terms of higher safety and efficiency will be shown.

This demonstration is based on the developments of the European project SCUTUM, which launched a European best practice for the operational adoption of EGNOS in the road transport of dangerous goods.
