Papercast's solar-powered e-paper passenger information displays will be utilised for a smart bus stop project in Japan's Aizuwakamatsu city as part of a partnership with E Ink Holdings. The project, administered by Aizu Riding Car Development (ARCD), aims to improve service convenience and reduce ongoing costs through digitally connecting bus stops.

The multi-lingual displays are managed remotely via Papercast's data management platform to deliver live bus arrivals, timetables, route data, route transfers, service alterations and a range of other other travel advice. It aims to improve the commuter experience, remove barriers to usage and increase ridership among residents and visitors.

In addition, the digital displays are designed with the intention of providing a more accurate reflection of the actual service timing by accounting for unexpected congestion and other disruptions.

ARCD is a consortium initiated by Michinori Holdings, operator of the Aizuwakamatsu bus service, Aizu Bus. Michinori is working in collaboration with %$Linker: 2 External <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary /> 0 0 0 link-external Toppan Printing KDDI website link false http://www.kddi.com/english/ false false%>, KDDI, Hakuhodo and Weathernews Corporation.

Bogdan Pavlic, chief technology officer at Papercast, said: “Using E Ink display components, Papercast has developed a platform specifically to meet the real-time bus stop information requirements of operators and their users. With a focus on innovation, Papercast offers a unique range of features with up to 9-times more energy efficiency than comparable alternatives.
