Deployment in South Africa shaping up

More than 200 South and Southern African ITS stakeholders met at the biennial International i-Transport Conference and Exhibition to seek transport solutions that improve efficiencies and safety while reducing the carbon footprint. More than 200 delegates attended i-Transport in South Africa
More than 200 South and Southern African ITS stakeholders met at the biennial International i-Transport Conference and Exhibition to seek transport solutions that improve efficiencies and safety while reducing the carbon footprint. This year saw the event host its largest exhibition to date with both local and international exhibitors.

6992 ITS South Africa’s CEO, Dr Paul Vorster, said: “ITS deployment in South Africa is shaping up very well and with the large number of new Integrated Rapid Transport Systems on the planning table, it bodes very for future growth.” Keynote speakers included South Africa Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters and Dr Ismail Vadi, Provincial Minister for Transport in Gauteng Province. Plenarys session dealt with policy and strategic issues affecting ITS and the parallel sessions focused on Public Transport, ITS Funding and Sustainability and Traffic Management.

Says Vorster: “With the number of ITS deployments increasing rapidly, there is a significantly greater emphasis on getting systems ‘talking to each other’ and to encourage the greatest possible degree of interoperability.”
