285 Delcan is the systems integrator for a major integrated corridor management (ICM) pilot site being highlighted by the US DOT. The San Diego ICM project, led by the 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), has deployed an advanced system designed to manage and optimise all available infrastructure, routes and modes in a pro-active, coordinated manner. The project won the Best of ITS Award presented at the opening plenary.
The Interstate 15 Integrated Corridor Management System represents collaboration between SANDAG, 3879 Caltrans, local cities, state and national transportation agencies. This project implements the US DOT’s vision that metropolitan areas can realise significant improvements in the efficient movement of people and goods through aggressive, proactive integration of existing infrastructure along major transportation corridors. It involves the integration of technologies and concepts that have yet to be used in the US. Various Active Traffic Management (ATM) strategies were deployed including: Freeway coordinated adaptive ramp metering; signal coordination on arterials with freeway ramp metering; regional arterial management; real-time multimodal decision support; network traffic prediction; on-line micro simulation analysis; real-time response strategy assessment; en-route traveller information; and pre-trip traveller information.
As systems integrator for this project, Delcan Intelligent NETworks product was installed to monitor and manage the various facilities and modes, as well as recommend response plan strategies for various types of scheduled and unscheduled events. At the heart of the system is a real-time multimodal Decision Support System (DSS) that involved integration between Intelligent NETworks and 16 Aimsun Online, a tool from 2195 Transport Simulation Systems (TSS) that provides network traffic prediction and real-time micro simulation. The end result is said to be one of the most comprehensive and intelligent decision support systems in the industry today.

ITS Romania’s stand will host a live demonstration presenting the eCall system now operational in Romania under the HeERO project. The eCall service enables a car to automatically dial the European 112 emergency phone number if it is involved in a serious accident, while sending data to the most appropriate public service answering point. Norwegian company SafeRoad will use Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014 to present SafeEnd, a new generation of energy absorbing end terminals, developed and tested according to the ENV 1317-4 and prEN 1317-7 standards. Features of the product are fast and easy installation, narrow width to allow usage at places with limited space, and low weight. The terminal can be used in combination with any existing safety barrier system, on central reservations as well as along the roadside.
Italian firm Snoline says that its Tau Tube redirective crash cushion offers low-cost crash protection. Paula Ferraris, communications & marketing manager for the firm said: “It is like the previous Tau but with a new impact absorbing system. It can stop a car travelling at 110km/h in less than 7m.” The system is said to be simple to install and is designed for long life, with a galvanised steel structure and meets the European EN1317-3 safety criteria. Germany company Dresden Elektronik is showcasing its deZign electronic timetabling technology for the first time here at Intertraffic. Using flexible plastic displays from Plastic Logic, the monochrome deZign display allows traditional paper timetables to be replaced at the push of a button. The solution is robust, daylight-readable and low power – fixed content requires no power, while text changes require only minimal energy.
