There’s less than a month to go before the 2015 ITS America Annual Meeting & Expo gets under way in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania gets underway in what will be a unique and visionary event. The theme is Bridges To Innovation so for the more than 2,000 of the nation’s top transportation and technology business leaders and investors, policymakers, public agency representatives, and researchers, this will be one of the most forward looking Annual Meetings.

The setting couldn’t be better! The city of Pittsburgh is leading the way in advancing technologies such as smart sensors for parking, real-time traffic and transit information, advanced automotive safety and robotics technologies, and smart mobility applications that are revolutionising transportation as we know it.

Pittsburgh is also the perfect venue because of its rising and diverse technology base, entrepreneurism and long-term importance as a freight hub. In addition, the city is also an academic centre with several major universities conducting significant intelligent transportation research. They are currently spearheading some of the most advanced and exciting ITS research and development on the planet including critical infrastructure improvements, greater transportation access for the movement of people and goods, autonomous vehicle technology and more.

The event runs from May 31-June 3 at the in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. It is co-sponsored by ITS Pennsylvania and has attracted more than 2,000 top officials, policymakers and high-tech leaders to this must-attend transportation gathering of the year.

The ITS America Annual Meeting program will highlight local ITS initiatives in Pittsburgh as well as ground-breaking ITS projects from across the country. It will also feature a wide array of topics including connected and automated vehicles, safety and security, financing and funding, sustainability, shared-use mobility and transit, commercial vehicle and freight logistics, mobile applications, transportation systems operations, and more.

There’s a packed conference programme that will give delegates unique insights into defining trends shaping the future of transportation. A case in point is the Opening Plenary on Monday where the Keynote speaker will be Chris Urmson, the man responsible for Google’s self-driving car programme which is currently testing a fleet of prototype vehicles. On Tuesday, there’s a Special Plenary session which will feature senior officials from the US Department of Transportation and include a discussion around Beyond Traffic: a 30-Year Outlook on the Future of Our Nation’s Infrastructure and the latest developments in federal ITS programs. The Closing Plenary on Wednesday will examine The Value of Partnerships for Innovation and will feature a Keynote by Uber’s Senior Vice President of Policy and Strategy, David Plouffe.

There will also be a full programme of sessions - Executive, Special Interest, Technical, and Training  - as well as ITS America Forum Meetings and Town Hall Sessions along with a brilliant Technical Tour programme. And, of course, a core feature of all Annual Meetings - the exhibition hall where delegates will get up close and personal with the entire spectrum of ITS technology and transportation services, including regional and national public agencies, the automotive sector, consulting firms, infrastructure equipment manufacturers, telematics and telecommunications providers. In addition, new for this Annual Meeting is an Entrepreneurial Village, sponsored by Xerox, where transportation, energy and smart cities focused startups and emerging companies are showcasing their innovative ideas within a dedicated space in the exhibit hall.
