8250 Nordsys has unveiled its mobile test and diagnosic tool for car2x communication environments. The waveBEE touch system is a ruggedised tablet computer that receives wireless communication based on Europe’s ETSI/ITS and the US’s IEEE WAVE specifications and enables the operator to analyse car2X messages in detail.

The tablet allows car2X communication data to be received, visualised and analysed ‘in the field’. Until now, such messages have usually been recorded in equipment-filled vehicles and taken back to base for analysis.

Errors in car2X test scenarios can be detected by the tablet from ranges of around 500m to 3km.

A car2X-equipped vehicle can generate warnings for events such as nearby emergency or broken-down vehicles, as well as poor conditions such as slippery roads.

If there is one point Matt Man, CEO of Canadian company Greenowl, wants to make clear from the start, it is that his company’s app is not a navigation system. He says: “Our system does not direct drivers to their destination because we mainly focus on commuters who know how to get to where they are going and only need information about any delays and incidents ahead of

Alerts for natural disasters are ones that most of us would rather do without, writes Adam Hill. But the ITS industry still needs help to deal with more common meteorological issues Google Maps has added SOS alerts to its service. For those of us more used to using the phone app to navigate from a metro station to an unfamiliar restaurant, this may seem extreme. But this is not what Google has in mind. Its SOS messages are for “hurricane forecast cones, earthquake shake-maps and flood forecasts”. That
