In less than three weeks’ time, global transport leaders and policy makers will gather to experience the latest developments from the intelligent transport solutions (ITS) industry, as the ITS World Congress opens its doors in Bordeaux, France.

The Congress, run by 374 Ertico, is the 22nd ITS World Congress, and is centred on the theme of “Towards Intelligent Mobility – Better Use of Space”. It will focus not only on how achieving intelligent mobility will change our lives but also on how space can benefit ITS applications. It will explore new developments in driverless and connected vehicles, including geo-location and earth observation and communications. It will also highlight some of the new opportunities emerging in intelligent transportation, as shown by a host of international manufacturers.

Visitors will be able to attend over 300 sessions and experience the latest products and services from over 100 leading companies worldwide. An exhibition space of over 25,000 square meters will be full of innovative new technology from hundreds of the world’s leading firms.

Some demonstrations will feature vehicles on the open road and others will let visitors to get up close to the vehicles and products of the future. These include the French firm 8036 Valeo, who will be offering an insight into the future of automated driving with its unique laser and sensor technology . It will also feature PSA Peugeot 6453 Citroen, who will be talking about its ‘Hidden Pedestrian’ research, allowing cars to warn each other of hazards which are ahead.

260 Continental, 2453 Renault, 7288 Compass4D, 5460 NXP, and 2044 Orange will also be running demonstrations on site. Driverless and responsive vehicles are expected to form a key part of ‘smart cities’ of the future, where urban areas will become increasingly reliant on data and connected devices.

There will also be a glittering social programme, with dozens of networking events and an unforgettable gala night at the stunning and historic Bordeaux Chateaux.

Didier Gorteman, Ertico CFO, is excited about the showcase, saying: “It is always fantastic to get a glimpse into the future and I cannot wait to see the exciting products on display at our World Congress. Intelligent transport systems and services will grow in importance in the coming years so it will be great to see the progress which is being made by different ITS stakeholders.”

The exhibition will be open to the public from 17:00 to 18:45 on 6th-9th October, with a day reserved for the media on 5th October. For more information, please go to 6456 ITS World Congress website.
