AtkinsRéalis acquires 70% of engineering consultancy

David Evans and Associates has interests in bridges, highways and transit

AtkinsRéalis Group has acquired a 70% stake in David Evans Enterprises, parent company of engineering consultancy David Evans and Associates (DEA).

Based in Portland, Oregon, DEA has interests in bridges, highways and transit.

Its smart mobility team aims to deliver "efficient and reliable" multimodal transportation systems, offering traffic engineering, transportation planning and environmental planning expertise "to provide mobility and safety solutions that recognise the context of each community’s and client’s goals".

Ian L. Edwards, president and CEO of AtkinsRéalis, says the transaction aligns with its strategy of "acquiring firms possessing deep local customer relationships in high growth and whitespace markets".

“It expands our reach in the Western US transportation, water and power & renewables markets, while leveraging our combined strengths to deliver large-scale, complex projects," Edwards added.

"This partnership marks an exciting new chapter, combining our Western U.S. expertise with AtkinsRéalis’ global capabilities,” said Al Barkouli, chairman & CEO of David Evans Enterprises. “Together, we will enhance our ability to deliver transformative infrastructure projects.”

Separately, Veronica O. Davis has been promoted by AtkinsRéalis to planning & environment national practice director for the US, where her remit includes transportation planning, public outreach and sustainability. 

The author of Inclusive Transportation was previously the company's director - cities program after joining AtkinsRéalis a year ago.

Before that, Davis spent three years as director of transportation and drainage operations for the City of Houston.
