Athens symposium navigates future of traffic management

Event runs from 29 June to 3 July in Greek capital

Senior figures from organisations such as Ertico - ITS Europe, IBTTA and Piarc will be speaking at the International Symposium 'Navigating the Future of Traffic Management' in Athens, Greece, this summer.

The Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens is hosting the event, which it co-organised with various national and international partners.

Dr Angelos Amditis, chair of the symposium and chairman of Ertico, says: "[It] promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking experience, bringing together some of the brightest minds in traffic management, engineering and research from across the globe. It will focus on innovative strategies and advanced technologies designed to enhance the active management of traffic on roads, freeways, motorways and tollways."

There will be keynote speeches, panel discussions, joint workshops, poster sessions and technical visits during the conference, which has five tracks:

  • Governance and Organizational Challenges
  • Operational Strategies and Network Performance
  • Next Generation of Traffic Management Systems and Services
  • Paying to Sustain Highway Networks
  • Sharing Traffic Management Data Within the Roadway Digital Ecosystem

Ertico CEO Joost Vantomme will be speaking, as will Emanuela Stocchi, president of Piarc, and IBTTA president and CEO of North Texas Tollway Authority, James Hofmann.

Other speakers include Bill Halkias, CEO of Nea Attiki Odos and Steve Phillips, secretary general, Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR).
