The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is to deploy 15 electric buses in Guwahati, a city in north-east India.
The project is part of the Indian government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme.
A report by Business Standard says each bus will carry up to 31 passengers along a 6.4km route between the neighbourhoods of Kachari and Kamakhya.

Anand Prakash Tiwari, managing director of ASTC, is quoted as saying: “[The] government of India is trying to bring emission-free transport as soon as possible. Buses will be operational likely within this month, they will be emission-free.”
ASTC is not the only company seeking to promote EVs under the country’s FAME initiative. Transport for London (TfL) has issued Uber London with just a two-month private hire operator licence.
The ride-hailing company’s previous 15-month licence – awarded by a court on appeal after TfL originally decided not to grant one - expires tonight (25 September).

Automobile components company Tata AutoComp Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to supply Tritium’s chargers for electric vehicles (EVs) in India.
Tata says Tritium’s Veefil-RT DC fast chargers supply power to a range of EVs, including two-wheelers, passenger and commercial vehicles.
David Finn, co-founder of Tritium, says the MoU coincides with the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Hybrid and EVs) scheme.
