Tolling organisation Asecap has launched the third European edition of its (S)heWorks / I Care safety campaign, to reduce fatalities and injuries on the roads.

The day-long event, taking place on 25 June during IBTTA's Global Road Safety Week, aims to raise awareness about road safety, with a special focus on the protection of people who work on highways, such as construction workers and emergency services.

Through interactive simulations, testimonials and educational workshops, the campaign encourages road users - in particular truck drivers - to better understand the challenges other road workers face – and "to adopt safer, more responsible behaviour" as a result.

"By allowing truck drivers and patrollers to step into each other’s shoes, this day promotes empathy and mutual understanding," Asecap says.

Asecap says 2024's day of action saw hundreds of patrollers and truck drivers engaged in local activities, with 17 European countries involved, and interactive awareness actions organised across partner highway networks.

France, Italy, Croatia and Portugal have joined the campaign this year.
