519 Alpha Technologies, a leading supplier of power solutions for ITS and traffic applications, is here at the ITS World Congress Detroit to introduce the PowerAgent Remote Battery Management System to provide real-time measurement and control of batteries at ITS sites.

The company says the system reduces unnecessary site visits for preventative battery maintenance, dramatically lowering operating expenses by providing remote access to battery performance data.

“The PowerAgent is ideal for ITS applications,” says Bill Killion, senior product manager at Alpha Technologies. “It is sized to remotely monitor the state of health of individual batteries in one- or two-string 48V battery configurations. The automatic data logging function eliminates the need for manual monitoring and recording of battery performance, and the data is accessible from any computer on the customer’s network.”

The system consists of a site controller that is powered directly from the battery bank, and battery sensors that connect directly to 12Vdc batteries. The product features battery balancing which addresses each cell charge individually, improving the reliability and extending the life expectancy of the battery string.
