Aecom design partnership awarded LRT contract

Aecom Technology Corporation has announced that GrandLinq, a public-private partnership (PPP) of which it is a member, is to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new at-grade light rail transit (LRT) system between the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener in Ontario,Canada. 3525 AECOM Technology Corporation has announced that GrandLinq, a public-private partnership (PPP) of which it is a member, is to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new at-grade light rail transit (LRT) system between the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener in Ontario,Canada.

The contract, awarded by the Region of Waterloo in Ontario is expected to be worth approximately US$23 million to AECOM.

As the PPP’s design lead, AECOM is responsible for the project’s detailed design, including track, civil, utilities, architecture, structural, landscape, systems and environmental services. Known as ION, the LRT system consists of 11 miles of track, 19 stops, 13 traction power stations and a new operations and maintenance facility to house and service the ION vehicle fleet. A focal point of the project will be the construction of a major grade separation for a future intermodal transit facility. Other notable scope elements include two new rail structures and public infrastructure works.
