4540 ABB has presented its overnight charging products and smart charging functionality at Busworld 2017 in Kortrijk, Belgium. The technology aims to provide a cost-effective solution for charger larger fleets of buses during the night and ensure zero emission transportation during the day.

HVC-Overnight Charger offers a compact, single power cabinet paired with up to three charge boxes, which means that after the first vehicle has finished charging, the next will start charging automatically, maximising vehicle availability and reducing the initial investment and subsequent operational costs.  In addition, the power cabinets of the charger can be upgraded from 50kW to 100kW or 150kW at any time.

The chargers also come with a suite of connectivity features including remote monitoring, remote management, remote diagnostics, and remote software upgrades that aim to provide customers with an insight into their charging operation and enable high uptime and fast response to problems.

At the event, the HVC-Opportunity Charging range was also showcased. It offers automated charging for both single and double-decker buses from any manufacturer in 3-6 minutes by using a pantograph coming down from the infrastructure.

Visitors to the ABB stand will also had the chance to learn about Tosa flash charging and on-board electric vehicle technology for e-buses.
