134 Telvent has announced an important expansion of its weather information systems and forecast services with the launch of Telvent Total View - a comprehensive solution that takes advantage of distributed multi-nodal platform controls integrated via cloud computing. It efficiently collects the weather measurements users specify and combines them, through the secure computing cloud, with forecasts and operational data from clients' enterprise-level platforms.

According to the company, any organisation that utilises weather information with another application or solution can benefit from Telvent Total View. For instance, for departments of transportation, it will combine road weather data acquisition and management services, visualisation and alerting services, and traffic data and camera feeds - all seamlessly integrated in map displays for timely traffic control decisions, such as holding an amber signal light longer when heavy fog persists. The progressive solution relies on the industry-leading Telvent OASyS DNA Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to automatically coalesce weather and operations data from disparate systems, while honouring all associated business rules. With this continuously updated, single information landscape, controllers don't have to shift from platform to platform and risk the omission of an element that can jeopardise safety or result in undue costs.

The open-architecture Telvent OASyS DNA SCADA system interfaces with any standardised weather observation system, so users can choose their system vendor and maintenance provider. Sensor components can be added to the system as data input needs grow or change. As Telvent points out, Total View configures to users' requirements, not the other way around.

Controllers not only have all of the applicable weather and operations data available in a single interface; they also immediately know the effect of the combined data, based on an organisation's pre-determined parameter and condition values. When time counts, all the data is at hand, along with asset and personnel alert thresholds.

According to the company, the Telvent Total View solution yields multiple management benefits such as reducing the IT platforms needed by eliminating the complexity of duplicate provider fees, contracts and maintenance agreements, increasing service delivery efficiency, and making 'smart' information management practical for nearly any size of operation. Other benefits include full integration of vital data and dynamic decision-making based on a scaleable and secure solution.
