Highway Resource Solutions has expanded its 7364 Intellicone product range to include Intellicone Traffic Management Unit (TMU) and Intellicone Sentry.

The TMU system enables traffic management staff to detect breaches at remote barriers and relay this to Intellicone portable site alarms within a work site. When combined with Intellicone enabled 1915 Dorman cone lamps, this helps create safer working environments.

The Intellicone Sentry, a rapidly deployable ultrasonic beam sensor, detects vehicles breaching works access points and can be used to support staff manning these gates.

An override switch enables authorised staff to allow work vehicles access without triggering the alarm. The Sentry integrates with existing Intellicone equipment and new TMU.

Safelane automates work zone perimeter guarding
The safety of workers during road closures and working alongside, or above, live lanes is becoming an automated process. Ten workers suffered major injuries while working on or near motorways and major A roads in England in 2013, and between 2009 and 2013 eight had been killed. It was against that background that the first commercial application Safelane, the automated traffic management system designed to detect work zone incursions, was carried out during the temporary closure of a motorway.

Connected cones make for safer sites
David Crawford welcomes new lives for old road safety products. Traffic cones and barrels have traditionally been on the bottom shelf of the road construction and maintenance industry, typically forming visible soft safety barriers for temporary works at a lower cost than concrete alternatives. On both sides of the Atlantic, however, they are fast gaining new roles as instrumented components in advanced construction safety arrays. The EC-sponsored €1 million (US$1.31 million) Safelane collaborative innovati
