Singapore deploys arterial VMS

Some 26 electronic signboards installed in West Coast Highway, Dunearn Road, Bukit Timah Road, Jalan Anak Bukit and Woodlands Road, in Singapore, have started displaying information about incidents and traffic jams on arterial roads and expressway running parallel to it. The signboards are part of the Arterial Variable Message Signs (AVMS) that will display the information based on a live video footage.

Some 26 electronic signboards installed in West Coast Highway, Dunearn Road, Bukit Timah Road, Jalan Anak Bukit and Woodlands Road, in Singapore, have started displaying information about incidents and traffic jams on arterial roads and expressway running parallel to it. The signboards are part of the Arterial Variable Message Signs (AVMS) that will display the information based on a live video footage.

The first phase of the project, which costs US$32.26 million, will have more signboards installed by 2012 at other five busy areas. A total of 10 major arterial road sectors will be covered by 2013.     The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has found that an Uber autonomous vehicle which killed Elaine Herzberg last year had software flaws. NTSB released a report which says the Volvo XC60’s autonomous system software classified the pedestrian as an unknown object and determined that an emergency braking manoeuvre was needed to mitigate the collision.
