Nodum launches road closure coordination software

Start-up Nodum has launched a product which allows transit authorities and construction engineers to coordinate road closures to minimise disruption.

Nodumtraffic.com allows closures to be programmed in order to maximise traffic flow, allowing traffic managers and transportation departments to communicate with one another.

The company says its ‘point-and-click’ route designer with 1691 Google Map integration “makes it simple to manage and view traffic rerouting, conflicts, and schedule road interventions, so traffic is quickly restored to its normal flow”.

Nodum claims that it will allow “enormous savings” on highway construction projects, while eliminating human error and improving coordination between the various parties involved.

Using a Software as a Service model, project managers can specify the information needed for a road project that demands traffic detouring. “Effective planning ensures the most effective road interventions, thus saving money and valuable resources while improving overall traffic flow,” the company insists.

Astronomical is not too grand a term to describe the current rate of growth in transportation-related data. Massive amounts of traffic related information, such as speed, volume, incidents and weather are being generated every second by road operators and users alike. Big data’ derives its name from the sheer amount and complexity of available raw data. Its potential value is starting to emerge among the intelligent transportation systems community. A gold rush is taking place to capture this value, with da

The ‘value of time’ concept can be a vital decider in prioritising transport projects, as Lorenzo Casullo and Serbjeet Kohli of Steer Davies Gleave explain. How much do travellers value their time and how much would they be willing to pay for a better and faster transport option? For many years Steer Davies Gleave (SDG) has been collecting this type of information from thousands of people across the world as it researches travellers’ behaviour. And given the importance of this parameter for transport mo

Need for a temporary communication fix during a construction project has led to rapid deployment of a permanent but simplistic wireless broadband network in Chandler, Arizona When a major construction project was expected to disrupt highway communications in the city of Chandler, Arizona, the city’s engineers went looking for a simple solution. They needed a way of maintaining data connections with three consecutive intersections along Arizona Avenue in Chandler while construction necessitated the severin
