Millbrook Group, the independent vehicle testing and validation services provider, has been appointed as an approved facility to provide real driving emissions (RDE) testing by the UK’s Vehicle Certification Agency, VCA.

The announcement comes after Millbrook was also designated to provide similar services to Dutch authority, RDW, and follows significant investment in Millbrook’s Powertrain department to develop its emissions-testing capabilities. Investment has enhanced Millbrook’s RDE data capture, through the latest portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS) and software.

Millbrook’s approval from the VCA covers testing procedures 2016/646 and 595/2009 on light and heavy duty vehicles respectively. The facilities at the Bedfordshire site are able to cover current, and immediately expected, EU regulations for real driving emissions. VCA has a permanent presence at Millbrook, making the conducting of official, regulated procedures more efficient and saving vehicle manufacturers’ time when putting their vehicles through official tests.

While members of the public may believe that the enforcement of parking regulations, bus lanes and box junctions has no practical benefit and is purely a money-making operation, for many authorities the opposite is true. Enforcement is a loss-making but vital exercise as illegally parked vehicles create obstructions and dangers leading to gridl
