3891 MapQuest, a wholly-owned subsidiary of 3890 AOL, has announced that it has integrated traffic and road condition cameras into its maps and directions. Now available in over 100 markets and featuring more than 11,000 cameras from partner 163 Inrix, the majority of the images are updated within a couple of minutes. The company says more cameras will be added in the next several months and traffic cams will also be available on MapQuest's mobile web and mobile apps in the near future.
Inrix used the 19th ITS World Congress to announce that it has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Network Information Services (NIS) in the UK to provide real-time traffic speed and travel time information for the Highways Agency’s National Traffic Information Service (NTIS).
The UK Department for Transport has issued its provisional estimates of road traffic in Great Britain for the year ending June 2016 by vehicle type and road class.
These show that motor vehicle traffic was at a record high with 319.3 billion vehicle miles travelled, at 1.5 per cent higher than the previous year and 1.6 per cent higher than September 2007).
Rolling annual motor vehicle traffic has now increased each quarter in succession for three years.
