6340 Swarco Traffic Americas is to install new parking guidance technology in a ten-level parking garage for Monarch Casino Black Hawk in Black Hawk, Colorado.

The system involves a combination of single space monitoring as well as indoor and outdoor garage variable message signage. Each parking space will be monitored by 1,265 state of the art ultrasonic sensors above each parking space to detect vehicles as they park. Vacant spaces are indicated by LED lights. Space availability data from the sensors will transmitted to variable message signs on the approach to and inside the garage, effectively cutting search times by 50 per cent or more and significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Installed during construction for the new garage, 129 Swarco says the embedded sensor design is the first of its kind in America as well as the sleekest available. The LED space availability lights have a 360-degree viewing angle and RGB multi-colour LEDs which can be changed remotely. Monarch plans to use unique colours for each category of parking space – electric vehicle charging, VIP, valet parking, handicapped spaces, etc.

Bosch has revealed that its driver drowsiness detection system, first introduced as a standard feature in 2010, in the new Volkswagen Passat is being fitted to the new Passat Alltrack. Fatigue and microsleep at the wheel are often the cause of serious accidents. However, the initial signs of fatigue can be detected before a critical situation arises, and the Bosch system can do this by monitoring steering movements and advising drivers to take a break in time. The required information is provided either by

In advance of the launch in spring 2017 two Eco Pyro pedestrian counters, supplied by UK company Traffic Technology, have been installed in the town to study footfall along the High Street. Results indicate that on most days people are using the bridge as the main gateway to the town but that only 60 per cent of people crossing the bridge travel the distance o

Unbroken service Technolution's Winifred Roggekamp and Dave Marples describe efforts to upgrade the Westerscheldetunnel's tolling system to give free-flow capability. Until 2003 the Flanders region of Zeeland, in the south-west of the Netherlands, was connected to the mainland only by ferry. The new Westerscheldetunnel, a 6.6km toll tunnel, improves communications with the region considerably, taking some 100km off the alternative road journey. In 2006 it was recognised that the toll plaza for the tunnel ne

The continuing, favourable performance-versus-cost situation concerning detection and monitoring technologies is driving the proliferation of intelligence across road networks. The effective and safe management of intersections is a focus for network operators and systems manufacturers alike. The most complicated of road environments, and statistically among the least safe, intersections enjoy particular emphasis in longer-term work on cooperative infrastructure solutions. However there are current developm
