Econolite EOS: designed to support future smart city and connected vehicle programmes

Econolite's EOS advanced transportation controller (ATC)  software has been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation (FD0T) under the 671-017-010 certification for the Econolite Cobalt ATC.

Already deployed at more than 3,500 intersections in North America, EOS powers Cobalt, "as well as properly configured ATC-style controllers from other manufacturers", Econolite says.

The company adds that EOS will help prepare transportation agencies and cities for deployments which are likely to come.

Jim Madden, Econolite regional vice president, eastern sales, says: “EOS is designed with the future in mind to improve traffic control capabilities, while supporting future smart city and connected vehicle programmes."

EOS has been designed to be intuitive for users, with an interface which will "maximize usability of traditional displays, as well as incorporating a new web user interface".

"EOS has the ability to dynamically respond and adjust to changes in plans, field conditions, and real-time data from priority vehicles," Econolite adds.

FDoT gave similar approval to the manufacturer's ZincBlue2 battery back-up system last year.
