The proposals seek to move the US away from fossil fuels and other sources of emissions that cause global warming within the next decade.

The package says these goals can be reached by reached by a ten-year “national mobilisation” which include an overhaul in transportation systems to eliminate pollution and greenhouse as much as technologically feasible, repairing and upgrading infrastructure, meeting power demand in the US through zero-emission energy sources and building smart power grids.

It emphasises that the Green New Deal goals require adequate funding, technical expertise, supporting policies and other forms of assistance to communities, as well as collaboration between the federal and state administrations, local government agencies and businesses.

In an interview with US radio %$Linker: 2 External <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary /> 0 0 0 link-external programme false https://www.npr.org/about-npr/692067268/npr-news-exclusive-with-rep-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-on-her-green-new-deal?t=1549974577870 false false%> NPR Morning Edition, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that solutions which are considered big and bold are nowhere near the scale of the problem that climate change presents to the US and the world.

"And so while carbon taxes are nice, while things like cap and trade are nice, it's not what's going to save the planet. It could be part of a larger solution, but no one has actually scoped out what that larger solution would entail. And so that's really what we're trying to accomplish,” Ocasio-Cortez adds.
