Centrica says VW subsidiary Elli will work with British Gas to deliver a package of home charging installations, aftersales services and electrical upgrades. This will help customers transition to EVs across the VW, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen ranges with plans for Audi to join later this year, the company adds.

VW's managing director Alex Smith says: “This will give customers even more confidence as they make the switch to emission-free driving."

A British Gas EV tariff is expected to allow consumers to take advantage of off-peak electricity prices by using the car dashboard or car manufacturer app to schedule EV charging during the cheaper night-time hours.

VW has already been taking steps to expand its green credentials. Last July, the German automaker expanded its global alliance with Ford to develop autonomous vehicles and Evs.
