TransportNet to host Urban logistics course in Antwerp

TransportNet is launching an Urban Logistics Summer School in Antwerp aimed individuals managing, planning and studying the logistics in urban areas, from the 20-24 August. It also intends to make participants from various backgrounds exchange ideas and views.

The course will cover the economic, technological, planning, policy-making, environmental and IT/ data issues. In addition, an optional assignment elaboration week will be held for participants interested innovation and sustainability in urban logistics, from the 27-31 August.

On the 20 August, an introduction to urban logistics will explore key trends and issues in urban freight transportation; the impacts of B2C e-commerce on urban logistics and; the changing face of the last mile.

21 August will continue with Big Data and Smart Cities in an urban logistics context. It will include the smart zone in Antwerp, opportunities for data collection; gathering urban logistics data via smart cities alternatives and; urban logistics pilots in Mechelen.

The third day, special topics urban logistics will focus on the location of delivery points in urban areas; the economic feasibility of cycling couriers and; trams for urban freight distribution.

Urban logistics impact will feature on the 23 August. It will cover the potential for logistics innovation in metropolitan areas; the need for and potential of e-vehicles and; a technical visit – DHL Urban Distribution Centre.

On the final day, Policy framework for urban logistics initiatives will address urban logistics policy and planning as well as the economic potential of sustainability measures.
