Telent opens centre of excellence

Telent, a specialist in ITS solutions including real time passenger information (RTPI) systems, urban traffic control (UTC) systems, as well as a wide range of traffic signal productS, has opened a new traffic R&D centre of excellence at its UK head office. This new centre brings together Telent’s ITS research and development teams with extensive laboratory and proving facilities and it will also provide full ‘hands on’ customer training.

    As part of the Pozuelo Smart City project and to improve the usage of the new and existing parking capacity in the city, Madrid in Spain has implemented a new system which reduces search traffic by guiding motorists to free parking spaces. The real-time parking data is integrated with the Smart City platform from Wairbut, a CISCO certified partner.     A full scale major incident emergency exercise has been carried out in the UK’s brand new Hindhead Tunnel on the A3 in Surrey. Located just to the south of London, the A3 route carries heavy traffic volumes and the existing road link has been a major bottleneck for capacity as well as proving a safety risk for the area. The new tunnel, due to open soon will relieve traffic jams in the area and boost capacity.
