SignPost Solutions (SPS) has launched the SPS 468 Chevron system to protect drivers in the event of a collision. It is designed with the intention of warning drivers of sharp bends and roundabouts, that they are themselves likely to cause accidents.

The post is manufactured from aluminium, making it lighter than steel and safer if hit by a vehicle. It is part of the signStr8 range and has a specially-designed flat edge to prevent the signs from rotating, which reduces the need for costly and potentially dangerous maintenance.

These posts are installed into a socket system which means if they are hit they can be replaced quickly without having to dig out and replace concrete foundations.

Rather looking to solve congestion by spreading the load, perhaps we need to look at concentrating it. Michael L. Sena writes. We humans were made to walk and run at embarrassingly slow speeds by comparison with other, more fleet-footed organisms. The sea is not our natural habitat and we were definitely not designed to fly unaided. Nevertheless, humankind has evolved a method of living during the past century that is dependent on transporting its members over very long distances during relatively short per

Clearview Intelligence (CI) has launched two free to use Return on Investment (ROI) calculators to assist highway professionals in showing the benefit of improving road safety on their network. The tools are said to demonstrate how road safety schemes pay for themselves during their lifetime as well as quantify the number of lives saved and injuries prevented. Designed for SolarLite Active Road Stud installations and the other for combination road safety solutions, the tools use the costs of accidents from

European safety organisation Euro NCAP is introducing a new test that will check how well vehicles autonomously detect and prevent collisions with pedestrians, which it says will make it simpler for consumers and manufacturers to find out which systems work best. According to Euro NCAP, independent analysis of real world crash data in the UK and Germany indicates that the deployment of effective autonomous emergency braking systems on passenger cars could prevent one in five fatal pedestrian collisions.

Within the European Commission's CVIS project, work is going on to shrink the open vehicle communication platform to make it more market-ready and to remove barriers to the creation of appropriate applications by those external to the project. Here, ERTICO's Zeljko Jeftic and Paul Kompfner and Q-Free's Knut Evensen discuss progress. Development of the open communication platform which will support the various applications developed by the European Commission's (EC's) Cooperative Vehicle-Infrastructure Syste
