An 6022 ITS toolkit, developed within the 2Decide project funded by the 1690 European Commission DG Move (Mobility & Transport), is now publicly available free of charge (registration is required).

The Toolkit – funded through the EC’s 7th Framework Programme for Research & Development – covers intelligent transport systems for road and public transport applications. It can be used to search for ITS applications relevant to specific context (geographical region, area of transport, problem or policy goal). It can also be used to obtain expected values and ranges for benefits of applications (where data is available), based on evaluation reports of real deployments, or to access structured summaries of ITS deployment case studies, evaluations and full reports, where these are publicly available.

An air quality evaluation system that utilises existing data has been modelled on the UK’s motorways and tested in Manchester as Peter Kirby and Paul Grayston describe. It has long been known that emissions from road transport are the principal source of NO2 pollution, especially in the urban environment, and that appropriate transport management can play a big role in meeting environment and public health objectives.

Drivers conventionally see parking as an isolated, often frustrating, action; but collectively their attempts to find a space impact hugely on traffic flows. But new analyses of parking events look set to deliver real benefits to motorists and cities alike. Initiatives getting under way around the world are highlighting the advantages of connecting up parking events and – eventually - parked cars. The hoped-for results include not only enhanced urban

Houston will go to the other end of the scale and focus on real-life technology applications and operational best practice, says event Co-Chair David Sparks
