According to the 1690 European Commission, assistive and cooperative systems (ITS) are expected to have a significant impact on the safety of vulnerable road users (VRU), by influencing all road users' behaviour.

The third European Motorcyclists' Forum, to be held in Brussels on 5 and 6 March will discuss this and the current state-of-the-art of ITS for transport which has not undergone any specific impact assessment with regard to positive or negative consequences for the specific mode of transport on powered two wheels (PTWs).

Motorcyclists (PTW users), as VRU, need to be carefully integrated into ITS innovation and deployment policies to guarantee that they also "benefit" from new technologies and not just "pay a tribute" for it.

Discussions will include, amongst many topics: the motorcycle industry and ITS deployment; preliminary results of the Riderscan ITS user survey; eCall for motorcycling; expert views on ITS and motorcycling; a comparison of EU databases on accident causation data collection and evaluation; and motorcycling human factors and ITS deployment needs.
