Compass4D, the latest EU project, aims to prove the social and environmental benefits of cooperative systems by deploying services for road users, including drivers of buses, emergency vehicles, trucks, taxis, electric vehicles and private cars, to increase road safety and energy efficiency, while reducing the level of congestion in road transport.

With a total budget of more than US$13 million, this new pilot project will involve 574 users and 334 vehicles in the deployment of co-operative ITS (C-ITS) in seven European cities (Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Eindhoven-Helmond, Newcastle, Thessaloniki, Verona and Vigo).  Compass4D will focus on the concrete deployment of three services: forward collision warning, red light violation warning and energy efficiency intersection service.

The project is being launched at a press conference in the city of Vigo, Spain on 28 January by 374 Ertico-ITS Europe, the city of Vigo and CTAG, together with representatives of the public authorities of the pilot cities as well as the partners of the project (including CTAG, Ertico, 7113 Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), 1675 Mizar, Peek, 189 Siemens, 129 Swarco, and 609 Volvo).

Following the press conference, the thirty-one partners from ten countries (Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany) will begin working on the project.
