1763 Econolite has launched Centracs Signal Performance Measures (SPM), a cloud-based high-resolution traffic data collection and analytics software solution designed to improve traffic signal optimisation and continuous monitoring. It has been developed in support of the fourth round of the Every Day Counts (EDC-4) program of the US 831 Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) that encourages implementation of automated traffic signal performance measures as a means to optimise traffic signal coordination and programming.

The 324 US Department of Transportation recommends re-timing of traffic signals every three to seven years.  Centracs SPM enables transportation agencies to make signal re-timing strategy decisions based on high-resolution dynamic traffic performance data without the costs associated with manually-collected low-resolution data and simulations

It provides continuous traffic data collection and analytics, enabling transportation professionals to proactively optimise signal timing, enhancing mobility and safety. In addition, Centracs SPM is suitable for deployment in connected and autonomous vehicles and Smart City applications.

Jim Leslie, manager of ITS applications engineering at the Econolite Group looks at practical steps in transitioning from closed-loop masters to a centralised ATMS. Not many years ago the standard method of coordinating signalised intersections in local areas was to install an on-street master – each of which monitored and controlled a limited number of signal controllers or intersections as a closed-loop system. And, to a certain extent, each closed-loop system was autonomous from others deployed by the ag

Connected vehicle research and development is being aimed at improving driver safety and mobility, but is also promising advanced weather monitoring and warning systems. Sheldon Drobot reports. Over the last few years, the United States’ Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Research & Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) have joined forces to promote safety, mobility and the environment through a new connected vehicle initiative. This aims to enable wireless communication between vehicles, infra
