Horizon 2020 is about to start, with a budget of around US$104 billion.  This new 1690 European Commission (EC) framework programme is designed to boost research and innovation across Europe and an information day has been organised by the Directorate Generals for Research and Innovation and Mobility and Transport on 18 December in Brussels.

The event, which will inform potential participants about the First round of calls under the smart, Green and Integrated Transport Challenge, will provide the details of the new evaluation and financial rules for participation.

Horizon 2020 has also just opened its first call for expression of interest for individual experts and organisations that wish to propose experts. The purpose is to establish a database of independent experts able to assist the Commission with the various tasks Horizon 2020 tasks, such as evaluation of proposals, monitoring of activities and project reviews.
