542 Global Traffic Technologies (GTT) is to implement its Opticom traffic pre-emption solution at nine of the busiest intersections in the city of Inglewood in California.

Opticom works alongside intersection controllers to help ensure emergency vehicles can move through intersections rapidly and safely, and public transit vehicles can avoid delays and adhere to schedules.

When an emergency vehicle needs to navigate an intersection, the Opticom system on-board the vehicle sends a request to the intersection’s controller ahead of its arrival, which turns the light green when it can do so safely, clearing a path to enable the vehicle’s expedited passage. If a public transit vehicle is running behind schedule, it can send a request for a green signal where possible.

GTT Opticom Analytics aids intersection analysis
Opticom Analytics enables users of Global Traffic Technologies’ (GTT’s) GPS-enabled emergency vehicle pre-emption hardware to assess intersection performance, reveal problem areas and make corrections to provide a faster, safer emergency response. The web-based analytics platform collects data logs from the Opticom-equipped vehicles via a Wi-Fi or cellular connection and allows departments to view critical information about their department’s vehicles as they pass through an intersection.

GTT Opticom transit signal priority recognised at 2017 UITP Summit

Global Traffic Technologies’ Opticom transit signal priority (TSP) solution was recognised at the recent UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2017 in Montreal. The system deployed by the Société de Transport de Laval (STL) won a Corporate Leadership Award in the Innovation category from the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA).

The award highlights transit innovations that break with conventional processes and extend beyond marginal improvements in products and services. STL’s implementation drew praise from CUTA judges and from STL leadership.
