Bird establishes board to help increase safety for e-scooter riders
US electric mobility company Bird has formed a global safety advisory board to implement campaigns and products to improve the safety for riders using electric scooters.
The board will also seek to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists who share space with riders using low-speed e-scooters.

David Strickland, a transportation leader who led the 834 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will manage the board as its director.
Strickland says he will work with the board and the areas in which the company operates to make streets safer for all road users.

Volkswagen will invest €15bn in electric and autonomous vehicles (AVs) in China by 2022, according to a report by Euractiv.com. The company says the technology used is the result of five years of R&D, in partnership with a top European Research Lab (CEA), and 15+ years of industry-leading expertise. It is protected by six international patents.
An instrumented motorcycle is on display at ITS America as part of a joint project with Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and the US Motorcycle Foundation. The Honda Goldwing motorcycle has been fitted with smart display which warns the rider of vehicles ahead braking sharply, vehicles in the blind spot, approaching intersections and other hazards.
The USDOT will hold its next two connected vehicle PlugFests on 13-15 May in Farmington Hills, Michigan and on 24-26 June in Palo Alto, California.
